Burns is the oldest same-family owned western retail business in the world, celebrating 146 years of building heirloom quality products. The business began in 1876 with founder Miles Lamonie Burns building leather saddle harness. Since then, Burns has had six different shop names, six generations of ownership, and one family, one legacy, one culture: COWBOY. Today, 5th and 6th generation owners have built the company into a brand that embraces the spirit of the West by honoring previous generations.

At Burns, we embrace creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit in order to adapt to an ever-changing industry. We build strong relationships with our customers and create wearable works of art in the form of hand-tooled leather saddles, hand-engraved sterling silver belt buckles, hand-shaped fur felt hats, and handmade leather boots. As you can see, we do a lot of work with our hands!

We aren’t afraid to learn something new and tackle a challenge. Our team is a family, and we work hard to hold each other accountable to reach our goals, build our skills, and create our best work. We know how to have fun and are ready to learn and grow along the way.

Description:

A craftsperson is responsible for the tasks in the saddle, boot, hat, silver, and leather goods process that have been determined by the position they have been assigned while demonstrating the ability to follow the designated Burns patterns, designs, and methods to ensure a consistent quality product.

Craftsperson Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations

• Working closely with team members to produce a consistent and quality product
• Respecting the confidential nature of the patterns and methods required for the position
• Owning the accuracy and timeliness of the completion of the orders
• Being proactive in creating and implementing systems that support efficiency and improve your skill
• Following designated Burns patterns, designs, and methods of construction to ensure a quality finished product
• Setting and accomplish daily goals by following the production schedule to complete all projects on or before the specified due date
• Adhering to the standards of Burns quality and bring attention to any projects that may not meet quality prior to completion
• In some positions, demonstrating the ability to cut leather cleanly and accurately, reading and understanding patterning, as well as competence in both machine and hand stitching
• Exhibiting attention to construction, finishing and detail
• Possessing an open-minded perspective, being willing to learn and try new things
• Being able to sit or stand for extended periods of time

Illum Atelier is an online learning platform aimed at elevating and uniting the traditional arts community through authentic relationships and narrative, unique learning experiences, and industry events. We are looking for an eLearning Designer with team building skills. The eLearning Designer will work with the online learning team to create the online learning and ecommerce website, create online courses, upload courses to the website, and create and deliver sneak peek reels and social media content to the marketing team. The eLearning Designer will work with subject matter experts (craftsmen/women) to create outlines and course models.

• Familiarize yourself with Online Learning Platform (Thinkific) 
• Consult with craftsmen/women to prepare outlines and learning modules 
• Define objectives and create content that meets objectives and requirements 
• Work with team to create design direction for Online Learning Platform
• Work with team to capture video footage
• Upload content to Online Learning Platform as needed.  Includes but not limited to video courses, pattern material, quizzes/tests, web banners, supplies, raw goods, equipment/machinery, tools, etc. 
• Deliver ‘sneak peek’ reels and images for social media accounts to marketing team 
• Demonstrate computer literacy 
• Work to understand SEO (search engine optimization) practices 
• Develop professional working relationships with clients and colleagues
• Participate in L10 meetings each week

As we celebrate our 146th anniversary, we are looking for a social media specialist to help us continue to grow our brand and bring awareness to our heirloom-quality products and authentic experiences. We are looking for someone who will be able to manage multiple social media accounts by creating and maintaining a digital marketing content schedule, publishing content on multiple platforms, copywriting, and reporting on analytical data. We also need someone to implement drip and nurture email campaigns.

Social Media Specialist Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations

• Meet with marketing manager and other members of the marketing team in weekly L10 meetings to discuss issues and ideas in your department
• Maintain content schedule for email and social media to ensure consistent brand messaging and communication across all digital channels
• Manage social media accounts by publishing content, updating account information when necessary, and communicating all pertinent information regarding account updates, needs, etc.
• Prepare and implement drip and nurture email campaigns for clients (ie. follow-up, product knowledge, product care, product announcements, events, company news, feedback/reviews, etc.)
• Monitor key online marketing metrics to track success and determine KPIs for campaigns
• Work with the marketing manager and other members of the marketing team to plan and execute the digital marketing strategy for each client

Social Media Specialist Qualifications and Skills  

• 1+ years of experience in digital marketing
• Knowledge of Brand Story framework a plus
